The optimization is not faster than the generic algorithm,
using the bench-strstr the geometric mean running on a POWER10 machine
using gcc 13.1.1 is 482.47 while the default __strstr_ppc is 340.97
(which uses the generic implementation).

Also, there is no need to redirect the internal str*/mem* call
to optimized version, internal ifunc is supported and enabled
for internal calls (meaning that the generic implementation
will use any asm optimization if available).

Checked on powerpc64le-linux-gnu.

I'm curious, but what options were used to compile the generic implementation?
Did you use -mcpu=power10 or for a better apples-to-apples comparison did
you use -mcpu=power7? ... or something else?

I must say I do like patches that basically remove code and make things
better. :-) Given Power7 is an EOL cpu and even the BE enterprise
distros are EOL, I'm fine removing the Power7 tuned routines even if
there would be a slight degradation using the generic routine, since it
simplifies the port and makes it easier to maintain. All the better if
the generic routine is actually faster! So...

LGTM.

I used the default one for a powerpc64le toolchain built with
build-many-glibcs.py, which is power8.

I also checked on a power8 machine (cfarm203) with a gcc 11.2.1 which
default to power4 and I see a gmean of 678.51 for power7 optimized
algorithm vs a gmean of 485.24 with patched.
