We should go with this simple one for 2.32.

Add x86_rep_movsb_threshold and x86_rep_stosb_threshold to tunables
to update thresholds for "rep movsb" and "rep stosb" at run-time.

Note that the user specified threshold for "rep movsb" smaller than
the minimum threshold will be ignored.

I agree.

We can make this better in 2.33.

Please post V3 of this patch for final review.

See my notes below on how this is intended to be handled by tunables framework.

Are these globals used *before* tunables is initialized?

That should be the only case that causes us to require to set the default here.

Otherwise we should remove the default and express it in dl-tunables.list.

OK, use the cpu_features value otherwise the computed value threshold.

> +

OK.

> +  if (cpu_features->rep_stosb_threshold)
> +    __x86_rep_stosb_threshold = cpu_features->rep_stosb_threshold;

This code becomes:

__x86_rep_stosb_threshold = cpu_features->rep_stosb_threshold;

Because the tunables code ensured the thresold was > 0, otherwise
an invalid tunable would leave the default value of 2048.
