  Adapting name_max and path_max at runtime didn't work because the trybot
container lied about NAME_MAX.  We still should do that check to avoid
errors in future tests having temporary directories in different
filesystems.  Enhance the check by arriving at a max name size that
actually works for the underlying filesystem.

This is hopefully the last patch in this; sorry about the spam...
